Genmark Automation’s EZTeach™ technology integrates apparatus, methods and application software for automating the process of robot teaching. The core of this technology is identifying the position of the substrate locations with minimum, or no operator efforts. The teaching process relies on the use of dedicated instruments and geometry identification algorithms. The result is uniform, fast, accurate and user independent robot teaching.

An integral part of the EZTeach™ technology is the Intelligent Teach Pendant Terminal based on Pocket PC compatible PDA, such as HP iPAQ. It streamlines the robot teaching by providing the full functionality, capabilities and intelligence of a traditional host-computer in the footprint of a handheld device. Convenient command-key layout and graphical user interface allows for significantly quicker robot training as compared with the manual teaching process. The terminal is ANSI compliant, providing Emergency Off Button and Dead Man Switch.

The EZTeach™ incorporates Genmark Automation’s Gencobot Tool Box, a set of powerful utilities, which simplify the programming, diagnostics, and calibration of the Genmark Automation robots. The Pocket PC application, which offers an intuitive user interface that requires minimal training to use, includes a terminal emulator, user macro editor, robot parameters editor and station editor. The EZTeach™ offers intelligent teaching wizards for a variety of equipment modules including load ports, prealigners, open cassettes, process chambers and others.

By predefined sequences of training steps, the wizards reduce teaching time, increase consistency in the teaching process, and minimize its dependency on the qualifications of the operator. The jogging mode of operation lets the operator jog the robot in any direction in different coordinate spaces (Cartesian, joint, or motor), using appropriate controls.

The EZTeach’s file transfer capabilities allow the operator to transfer files from the robot controller to the PDA, as well as to upload and download firmware configurations, station information and other data.

The diagnostic tools display the current status of the servo axes in real-time. It allows the operator to monitor the servo controller operation and to perform diagnosis. The diagnostic functionality also includes verification of the consistency of the robot firmware parameters by comparing them with a set of predefined values. The EZTeach™ is also capable of automatically collecting extensive diagnostic information in case of a failure.
